How to Plan a Basement Home Theater (GTA Homeowner’s Guide)
Screen size, TV or projector, speaker layout, pre-wiring, lighting and seating: a step-by-step plan for a basement theater that sounds and looks great.
Wall-mounted, recessed, linear and insert-style electric fireplaces, installed cleanly and planned together with the TV above so the whole wall looks built-in.

An electric fireplace gives you the glow of a real fire with no gas line, no chimney and no venting. Installed well, it becomes the centrepiece of the room: perfectly level, with a TV above it at a comfortable height and no visible wires. We install electric fireplaces across Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Milton, Toronto and nearby.
Electric fireplace installation means choosing the right type (wall-mounted, recessed, linear media wall or insert), securing it to studs or framing at the right height, connecting it to a suitable power supply, and planning the TV above so the heat vent, screen height and cables all work together.
| Type | How it’s installed | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Wall-mounted | Hangs on the wall surface like a TV | Condos, bedrooms, quick upgrades |
| Recessed (built-in) | Sits inside a framed opening, flush with the wall | Clean, modern living rooms |
| Linear media wall | Long insert built into a feature wall with the TV above | Great rooms and basements |
| Fireplace insert | Slides into an existing wood fireplace opening | Retiring an old wood-burning fireplace |
| Mantel package | Freestanding unit with a surround | Renters and flexible layouts |

Most electric fireplace jobs we do also include a TV above. Planning both at once avoids the three most common mistakes:

Smaller wall-mounted and insert models usually plug into a standard 120 V outlet. Larger linear and built-in units are often hardwired and may need a dedicated circuit. In Ontario, hired electrical work such as a new circuit must be done by a Licensed Electrical Contractor, who files a permit with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA guidance on hiring an electrician). We check your model’s requirements during the quote and tell you upfront if electrical work is needed.

The price depends on the job rather than a flat rate. These are the main factors. Send a photo of your wall and your TV size for an exact, no-obligation quote.
A few minutes of preparation makes the install quicker and avoids a second visit.
Yes. It’s our most common setup. We check where the fireplace vents heat, leave enough space and set the heights so the TV stays comfortable to watch.
Small plug-in models usually don’t. Larger hardwired and linear units often do, and in Ontario that work must be done by a licensed electrical contractor. We’ll check your model before installation.
Yes. An electric insert fits into an existing wood fireplace opening, so you keep the mantel and surround without the smoke, ash or chimney cleaning.
Yes. Wall-mounted and plug-in recessed units are popular in condos because they need no venting or gas. We follow your building’s rules for drilling and hours.
You can choose your own model, and we’ll install it. If you’re still deciding, we’ll advise on size, type and heat output for your room before you buy.
