A home theater is more than a big screen. It’s the right screen size for the room, sound that fills the space without echo, wiring you never see, and controls simple enough for everyone in the family. We plan all of it together, then install it in as few visits as possible.
How we build a home theater
- Planning. We look at the room size, seating distance, windows and lighting, and recommend a large TV or a projector and screen to match.
- Pre-wire. In unfinished basements we can run HDMI, speaker and network cables before the drywall goes up. In finished rooms we fish cables through walls and ceilings.
- Screen. Large TV wall-mounted at the right height, or a projector ceiling-mounted and aligned to a fixed, motorized or pull-down screen.
- Sound. Surround speakers, in-ceiling speakers and subwoofer placed for your seating rows.
- Control. Receiver, streaming devices, consoles and cable box connected, with a universal remote or app control set up.
- Calibration. Picture settings and speaker levels adjusted for the room.

Basement theaters
Basements are ideal for home theaters: they’re naturally dark, quieter and often have open ceilings during renovation. If you’re finishing a basement, talk to us before the drywall goes up. A pre-wire takes a fraction of the time it would after the walls are closed, and lets you put speakers exactly where they sound best.
TV or projector?
Large TVs are bright, sharp and work well in rooms with daylight. Projectors give you a much bigger image for the money and feel more like a cinema, but they need a darker room. We’ll help you decide based on your room and how you watch. See projector and screen installation for more on projectors.

Home theater FAQs
How big should my home theater screen be?
It depends on how far you sit. As a rough guide, many people enjoy a screen whose diagonal is about half to two-thirds of the seating distance. We’ll measure your room and recommend a size.
Can you pre-wire my basement before drywall?
Yes, and it’s the best time to do it. We run HDMI, speaker and network cables to the right spots so everything is ready when the walls are finished.
Do I need a receiver?
For a full surround system with separate speakers, yes. For smaller rooms, a quality soundbar with wireless rears can be a simpler option.
Can everything work from one remote?
Yes. We set up HDMI control between your devices and configure a universal remote or app so the family can turn everything on with one button.
How long does a home theater install take?
A TV-based theater with surround sound is often done in a day. Larger projects with in-ceiling speakers and a projector may take longer. We’ll give you a timeline with your quote.
